FAQ: Are Sinkholes Dangerous to People?

Sinkholes, just as they sound, are holes in the ground, which are widespread throughout the Tampa Bay Area.  They develop from the movement of water underground and cause a deterioration of the soil and limestone or limerock underground and ultimately cause the surface to collapse. Sinkholes near buildings or residences can, and have, caused the structures to collapse.  Once the structure has collapsed, it obviously can have a major impact on the occupants and owners of the building.

Additionally unfortunately as was realized recently in Tampa, sinkholes can even be deadly when they open under residences causing total structural collapse, such as the “Seffner Sink.”  This sinkhole literally resulted in a death and was a stark reminder to those in the industry that sinkholes can have catastrophic effects on not just buildings, but also people.  Obviously, this is an extreme example, but the simple fact is that sinkholes can be dangerous to folks, especially when they can cause significant structural damage to a building.

If you are concerned about your property being on a sinkhole, set up a free consultation with the sinkhole lawyers of Hackworth Law, P.A. for a free case consultation.
